So far this trip has been AWESOME. not. First Solomon misses his flight, meaning Avalon and I spent yesterday hanging around the hotel all day hoping he was able to get a new flight ok, get a visa ok and then find the hotel on his own, ok. None of which were givens. It's his first time travelling internationally and he didn't have a map of how to get to the hotel, which can be tricky to find. But it worked out in the end. He was almost denied a visa as his flight return date was longer than 15 days (the length of visa) away, but luckily Ethiopian Air has a booth at the airport and changed his flight for him, so that he could get a Thai visa. His taxi driver was driving erratically and couldn't find the hotel, so Sol jumped out and had to get a tuktuk the rest of the way, but he got here in the end!
Avalon was in a good mood last night, was pleased to see her daddy and really enjoyed our dinner in the nice little aircon room here next to the play room because she was able to have her garlic bread AND play trains all at the same time.
Last night, however, she woke up at 11pm with a raging temperature that persisted all morning. She seemed to come good around midday after the panadol kicked in though. It was raining here, the jackhammering was annoying and we were a little stir crazy, so we got a taxi to a massive shopping centre and Avalon went straight to sleep in her pram while we window shopped. It was pretty cool, all the big name shops from around the world in one melting pot of a shopping centre. I thought of mum when we passed miss Selfridges.. I also introduced Sol to McDonalds. He quite liked the chicken burger but wasn't too keen on the fries and less so when he got chili sauce to put on them and discovered that Asian sweet chili sauce bears no resemblance to the hot pure chili sauce he is used to.
After we had lunch, Avalon woke up from her nap and was burning up again and wincing when she coughed and looked miserable, so we got a cab to the Holiday Inn Silom where I had googled a travel health clinic that I believe is run by an Australian company? Anyway, we were tossing up between hospital (which seemed like overkill) or the travel clinic in the taxi there and made a quick decision to go to the clinic and it turned out it was a good move because the clinic was fantastic!! SO thorough. The doctor was Australian trained (not that that really matters) and was incredibly helpful. Checked her over thoroughly with 2 well trained nurses standing by to assist. Turns out my poor poppet has tonsillitis and an ear infection. He prescribed us antibiotics, antihistamine, nurofen and explained all the drugs more thoroughly than any other doctor has! He educated me on quite a few things, like never give medicine with milk, the correct dosage for panadol (I've been overdosing apparently!) and Zyrtec (or any antihistamine) will clear your head better than the new stupid Sudafed will, since they no longer put pseudoephedrine in it. Interesting!
Anyway, we are back at the hotel now and will stay in Bangkok until the antibiotics kick in and missy feels better. Fortunately, there's lots to do and see here!
